We got off to a cool start today with temps in the mid 50s with a little cloud cover, but by this afternoon the sun was poking through and it was a pleasant day. The weather looks pretty good for the rest of the week so I’m sure that anglers will be out in good numbers.
Captain Jeff Coats of Pitboss Fishing enjoyed filming our trip to Wachapreague, VA with Captain Brian Behe so much that he decided to head down today with his wife Karen and give it a shot. Captain Jeff reported windy conditions, but good fishing in Drawing Channel. He and Karen released several throwback sized flounder on live minnows and put two nice fish in the box. Captain Jeff also reported that he lost a “monster” beside the boat.
There have been some more bluefish caught at the Oceanic Pier the last day or so. Bob Haltmeir reports that there are more fish being caught all the time as more anglers are fishing the pier. These fish were caught yesterday and as you can see are coming in a couple of different sizes.
I close my report tonight with bad news as I inform you of the passing of my good friend Jack Kaeufer after his battle with a long illness. I knew Jack for over 20 years and it was always a pleasure to see him on the bay, in the tackle shop or at the office of the Coastal Fisherman hanging out with his buddy Dale Timmons. Jack always had good advice for me and even told me a few of his “secret” spots. He was a friend to many and he will be sorely missed. God speed and tight lines Jack
