The weather pattern continues to improve, now we just need the wind to stop. We had really nice conditions today with warm temperatures again and sunny skies, but the wind picked up out of the south and made things just a little tougher. A southerly flow is what we need for the warmer temperatures this time of year, I just wish it would flow at like 5-10 knots.
Captain John Prather on Ocean City Guide Service ran his second trip in as many days and had a good time with the rockfish at the route 90 bridge putting his clients on several throwbacks. Captain John also added a nice 19″ flounder that went in the box while slow trolling a white lead head rig tipped with a Zman paddler.
Captain Jeff Coats of Pitboss Fishing was on the water twice today. This morning it was the route 90 bridge before the wind kicked in where he caught and released several throwback rockfish on a solo trip. This afternoon it was a charter where the bite slowed down thanks to the stiff southerly breeze, but he was able to put his clients on some good rockfish action. All of the fish were caught on Big Bird’s World Famous Roy Rig of course.
I had the pleasure of fishing with Captain Monty Hawkins on the party boat Morning Star for an upcoming episode of Hooked on OC today. We had a Facebook giveaway last night and our two winners Lisa and Mike Caffarella joined us for a fun day on the rip where they will be in the episode. We had some good luck on the Morning Star today with several throwbacks and some decent sized keepers. Dennis was the high hook on the boat with three keepers and most everybody got to catch a fish. I even had a keeper that went in the box on today’s trip. Big THANKS to Captain Monty, mate Dan Iacangelo and Nick Denny for today’s trip!
