Check out some of the action at this weekend’s OC Tuna Tournament!!
What a difference a day makes! Yesterday we had colossal seas and downpours in the afternoon….today it was flat calm beautiful with zero precipitation. Kristen and I got out on the bay for some flounder fishing and put two nice fish in the boat before our steering conked out and this afternoon I got some reports of some pretty decent fishing on a flat calm ocean.
Captain Chris Mizurak of the Angler reported that sea bass were real finicky today, but some guys got on the flounder pretty good.
Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star had a long flounder trip today and it was a successful flounder trip at that.
Had an 11 hour fluke trip turned into 12 hr today. Got underway about dawn & enjoyed a gorgeous summer sunrise. After the Smathers men dropped our reef blocks at Al Bergey’s Reef North; we got to flounder fishing across a broad array of habitats. None of my spots was on fire, but we picked a few–and of mixed sizes–most everywhere. Big Bill was first to box out – another fellow too just before the bell. Had several anglers with 3 fluke in the cooler; a smatering of cbass, hake, and cutlassfish too. (Cutlass was my biggest yet, I think. Dern near two yardsticks long – fifty inches. Jigmaster Tom landed a pretty keeper double of fluke while Eddie cashed in on the reef builder’s karma and pocketed the pool money with a 24.25 inch flounder.
Made for a nice day, I thought. Certainly the most keeper fluke we’ve had yet this season.
Forecasted 2 foot swells that were actually an occasional 7 or 8 foot?
Yeah.. Not so much fun there.
But boy, long stretch of calm coming!
Have made a lot of special trips of it.. See Morningstarfishing.com “Fish Report” tab for the trip schedule.
Summer “Fish for what’s biting best” tomorrow, Wednesday & Thursday. Friday will be my first shot at nearshore mahi. Saturday long (sold out) & Sunday/Monday’s lonf long flounder trips from here on into September..
Gone fishing!
Cheers!
Monty
John Papathakis caught this nice 20″ keeper flounder in the OC Inlet.
This stud keeper flounder landed up in the net of the Miss Ocean City after it was caught by the Coast Guard station.
