Good Black Friday Fishing

Good Black Friday Fishing

I hope everyone had an awesome Thanksgiving with family and friends and didn’t eat too much!  It was a chilly one today, but the wind dropped out nicely by this afternoon and there was some good fishing to be had in the ocean and in the bay.

Captain Dale Lisi of Foolish Pleasures has had a fantastic couple of weeks with the bluefin tuna and today the run continued.  Captain Dale put his crew on one “under” bluefin and one “over” bluefin that weighed in at 168 pounds.

Captain Monty Hawkins and his crew on the Morning Star had some tough luck with the bluefin the other day, but today they hit the mark.

Black Friday?
Naaa – Was Bluefin Friday!
Curse lifted 11/29/24
Had two short weather windows pop up on either side of Thanksgiving. I’ve often turned these ‘all of a sudden’ weather window days into reef building trips; but with the siren’s song of jumbo bluefin tuna calling irresistibly? I decided to experiment with the beasts. They have, after all, been feeding even inside my normal fishing range. My young crew had the bug bad too..
On Wednesday we suffered a hard skunk owing our sea bass/fluke/tautog skill set being nontransferable; went zero for two.
Friday we never left the dock until 8 to allow NW winds to fall out. That part of the plan went well as winds fell to near nothing. We had a tremendous run off at 11:10 – the nameless individual on the rod decided to stop a +-200lb fish on 50 lb braid with full drag.
That battle was lost at 11:12.
Buck fever now beaten out of him, the next one was 61 inches and in the boat in 26 minutes.
Dinners for many!
Cheers,
Monty
Big Bird Cropper, Shaun Flaherty and Corey had a great day in the bay and OC Inlet today.  The guys used Roy Rigs and the “dredge” to land some keeper rockfish and some slot sized red drum.  Corey was able to catch his first ever OC red.
Brian Reynolds, Matt and Sean had a fun day with the tautog putting some keeper fish in the box.  Matt had his first ever tautog and Sean caught a flounder on a green crab.

Hit the vid to see how Big Bird gets it done!!
