Good Fishing Before Another Blow

Good Fishing Before Another Blow

It was another pretty awesome weather day today in Ocean City and out in the ocean, but that is all going to change for tomorrow.  Hurricane Michael made landfall this morning as a major category 4 hurricane and his remnants will effect us tomorrow into Friday, but the forecast is for conditions to improve quickly and right now the forecast for the weekend looks very nice.  Flounder fishing was good today in the east channel with lots of throwback action and several keepers caught.  I even got to get out for a new episode of Hooked on OC with George from Racetrack Marine on a beauty of a 26′ Century that they sell and we had some pretty good luck.  Seven or eight throwbacks and one keeper for us on the outgoing tide was a lot of fun.

The ocean will be closed for business for a day or two, but it was nice today and fishing was good.  Offshore in the canyons Captain Joe Drosey of Rhonda’s Osprey found the mahi again today to the tune of a limit of 10 fish per person.  The crew also released a white marlin that Captain Joe referred to as a “stud.”

Yesterday Captain Chase Eberle of Chasin’ Tides Charters took the boat offshore with his fill in Captain Thayer and had a great day.  The duo released a white marlin and 30 or so mahi and kept a limit of 20 mahi as well.

It was all smiles aboard the Distraction yesterday with captain Aaron Lifson and the crew of Dave Schulte, Joey Reichart, Louis Rossi, Rich Schulte, & Megan Higgins. The crew caught a limit of mahi at the rock pile, than made their way to the Washington where Rich Schulte landed his first whit marlin.

Bottom fishing over ocean structure was good for the party boat fleet today with some good sea bass fishing and some flounder and triggerfish mixed in.  Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star reported a decent day with several anglers pushing double digits in sea bass and some better flounder action.  Joseph Hendershot of Westminster, MD took the ‘sea bass only’ pool with his 19″er. Also pictured are Bob Houser of Carlisle, PA (with a 17.5″ fluke) – Mark Riggin of Laurel, DE – Pam Maus of Shippensburg, PA – Todd Scorah From Millsboro, DE – & Clem Hoeger of Selbyville, DE.

Captain Chris Mizurak of the Angler also reported good fishing today with some limits of sea bass and a bunch of tasty triggerfish.

I saw Mike Montalone while we were fishing the east channel today and he reported having a good day with the flounder…..a reel good day!  Mike fished the route 50 bridge and caught his limit of flounder on live bait.  Photo credit to Captain Mark Spagnola of Dusk to Dawn Bowfishing.
