it was a beautiful fall day out there today with little to no wind, sunny skies and no precipitation. The ocean fish cooperated for most with swordfish, Mahi, flounder, sea bass, tautog triggerfish and more.
Captain Willie Zimmerman and the crew of the RoShamBo had a nice day out in the canyon with two swordfish and some peanut mahi.
Bradley Blades, Dustin Leichling, John Leichling and Douglas Sanchez caught one swordfish fishing on the private boat, Olivia Jade.
Captain, Kane Bounds and his crew fishing aboard the Fish Bound have seen some good fishing the last few trips with mostly boat limits of quality sea bass along with a few keeper fluke up to 7 pounds.
Captain Kyle Pelino of the OC Guide Service put his crew on a limit of sea bass today along with a few keeper tog.
Brock Michael took Marlon Carr out in his little 18’ Mako and had some good tog fishing with fish up to 24”.
Big Bird Cropper threw Roy Rigs at the Route 50 bridge and caught six throwback sized rockfish.
Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star had to hit a few spots before things turned on, but by the end of the day, he had a really nice catch of sea bass along with some scup.
Sea Bass and a few scup on an incredibly calm day – 11/3/26
Didn’t make sunrise at the inlet this morning – almost though. Production manager said the show had to go on without us – and did.
Sure was a super calm sea awaiting us though.
Mirror calm, in fact. So calm that with the least bit of cloud cover on the eastern horizon one could scarcely tell where the sea and sky parted ways; just an endless ocean in support of flat earth thinking.
We build a little reef habitat every trip. Christy & Ryan gave today’s reef unit–sixteen 24x8x8 blocks lashed together–a heave-ho sending it join almost 6K other blocks in between Capt Bob’s & Ringmaster Reef groups.
..then underway again.
My first spot revealed how a plan often doesn’t survive ‘lines in.’
Ugh. A tiny few sea bass, one keeper; a trigger plus a lonely fluke were not going to make a day
..underway again
and another false start.
Mercy
..more precious diesel out the exhausts.
At last a good screen of fish. Anglers bowed up – some keepers in the mix – come some scup too – action around the rail
save Hurricane Murray.
I knew if I could change his luck we’d be in tall cotton.
Did.
Cathy; her own mojo newly restored when I found her second favorite stick in the rod locker, broke into double digits at 1:05.
Murray, fishing with both hands for once (temporarily w/o pie) put a potential pool winner in the box soon after.
Mark too had a dandy – a double with a decent scup. Even got a rare smile from him.
Then Cathy smacked em both down. Sure wasn’t much coin but “I won the pool” is the tale that gets told.
Some nice fish. Bonus scup. Stunningly calm seas. Worked.
Going again tomorrow with another light rail. Calm again too. Not calling for any wind over ten knots.
Cheers,
Monty
