Good Fishing On Flat Calm Seas

Good Fishing On Flat Calm Seas

It was another day of beautiful, flat calm seas out there today, but that’s all going to change this weekend.  We’ve got a stiff northeast wind heading into the area Friday night that will last through the weekend and mess up the ocean for a couple of days.  The forecast is so bad that we’ve made the difficult decision to postpone the 1st Annual Flounder Royale tournament until next weekend August 9 and 10.  We will have in person registration at Bahia Marina this Friday from 4 pm until 7 pm as scheduled, and then we’ll have final registration next Friday, August 8 from 4 until 7 again.  Fishing days will now be Saturday and Sunday the 9th and 10th.

Captain Dave Caffrey of On the Run has been on a run with some good fishing over his last several trips.  Captain Dave has put his anglers on triggerfish, flounder up to 5 pounds and sheepshead up to 8 pounds while fishing over ocean structure.

Captain Jason Mumford of Lucky Break had some great trips today as well with some triggerfish, some flounder and some croaker up to a whopping 15″.

Captain Tony Battista of Saltwater Adventures had a nice day with the sea bass putting some solid keepers in the cooler.

Captain Will on Local Hooker had a good day with the sea bass as well with some double keepers coming up on today’s trip.

Anglers fishing on board MobSquad Fishing had some luck today with several very nice blueline and golden tilefish going in the fish box.

Ash Baker from Baltimore had a big keeper sea bass and some other folks had good fish too while fishing on board the Miss Kathleen out of Bahia Marina today.

Captain Chris Watkowksi of Spring Mix II had a Mahi Mahi kind of day today.

Eva and Adley Pylypczuk, Carly Culver and Daylen Linton had a great day with the triggerfish today using clams and squid over ocean structure.

Randy Mentzer of Mentzer Custom Trailers had another good day with the flounder putting three keepers in the boat up to 5.5 pounds.

Anglers fishing on board the Miss Ocean City enjoyed nice weather today and good fishing for flounder along the rail.

Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star enjoyed another beautiful day on the water today.

Nice when it happens. Found another mirror calm start with the ocean no different than back bays. A large pod of bottlenose dolphin, some 70+ I’d estimate, lay on our course toward sea buoy.
Truly idyllic..
After a good steam Nick, Jamison, AJ & Isaac sent a stout reef block unit & pyramid into the briny deep at Gratitude Reef.
As we saw Sunday with VisionRay’s ROV technology, these simple boat-built reefs can be quite productive.
We continued eastward and found much better water – clearer – than we’ve been seeing. Was warmer too – 83.4 degrees.
Looked perfect – just perfect – for our nearshore mahi fishing.
Turned a good piece of ocean inside out today. Didn’t find grand schools I’d hoped for. Did find a couple bailers and a peanut.
Perhaps tomorrow!
Paused the mahi hunt a few times to drop deep for sea bass. Found some cooperation the first time – right nice fish at that.
Second time I marked just as many cbass on structure – not a sniff. Had moved a few miles – bet big I’d moved back into cold bottom temps..
We have a fair bit of wind coming. It’s going to stir things up. Hopefully it’ll send those green scoundrels inshore where we can get at em..
While the wind is doing its thing – crew will be doing theirs. Dock work is such a special part of working on a boat.
Ummm… Well, it does need done though!
Cheers,
Monty
