Finally!! A gorgeous weather day to get out and do some fishing! The weather was even nice enough for the ocean going party boat fleet and even some offshore boats to get out today. I even got out for a few hours this afternoon and even though I didn’t catch anything, it was nice to be out on the water after some pretty terrible weather. The bay was crowded too. The inshore charter and party boat fleet was out in full force and there were a ton of private boats on the bay as well. Everyone has been chomping at the bit to get out again and with the uncertainty of next week’s weather lots of people took advantage of today’s nice conditions.
With all the wind and rain lately fishing in the bay has been tough. There are still plenty of flounder around, you just really have to know what you’re doing and/or get really lucky to put fish in the box. Captain Jason Mumford of Lucky Break Charters knows it takes a little bit of both and even though he knows what he’s doing….sometimes you need a Lucky Break. Captain Jason had some good luck putting his anglers on fish today on the outgoing tide. A nice 19.5″ flounder ended up in the box on one trip and young Heidi Radebaugh of Freedom, PA caught a HUGE 12.6 pound sheepshead in the OC inlet this morning.
There were some flounder caught on the Oceanic Pier in downtown Ocean City this morning as well. Webmaster Bob Haltmeier sent me these pics of some flatties that came over the rail at the pier as big as 18″.
Captain Chris Mizurak of the Angler reported some good fishing today on ocean structure. Captain Chris put anglers on some big sea bass and several keeper flounder on today’s trip and even filled a couple of coolers.
The Restless Lady with Captain Todd Kurtz took advantage of the fishable sea conditions today and had some good luck trolling the canyons. Mike Behney, Tom Sauerwine and Skylor Behney caught a big yellowfin tuna and several gaffer mahi for the box. Skylor, who is on active military leave, hooked, caught and released a white marlin on the trip as well. Thank you for your service Skylor!
Captain Marc Spagnola of Dusk to Dawn Bowfishing enjoyed the nicer conditions today and had some good shooting because of it. Captain Marc put his shooters on some good action for cow nosed and southern rays in the south bay.
