The good Lord blessed us with an absolutely beautiful Labor Day today! Skies were sunny all day, the wind was light and temperatures were absolutely perfect. It was a great day to be outside and even better to be on the water. In the words of my buddy Austin Ensor today was a “full send” for fishermen both inshore and off.
Offshore conditions were perfect today with flat calm seas so it was a good day to be trolling the canyons. Chip Raynor was trolling the Poor Man’s Canyon today and reported that overall it was pretty slow for them. They did have a nice fish hit a bird and green machine combo on a shotgun line and thought that they had something really big when the line began to fly off the reel. The initial bite was delivered by a good sized wahoo, but the lighting line run off was from a far bigger toothy creature….probably a shark. Chip said “the tax man got us.”
The Rice family was on board the Restless Lady with Captain Todd Kurtz today and they got all of their fish back to the boat in one piece. The Rice’s released a white marlin and boxed a big pile of gaffer sized mahi.
Flounder fishing on ocean structure was good for Captain Chris Mizurak and the crew of the Angler today. Captain Chris reported a “nice day today” and he was right on the money. Anglers on board the Angler had several keeper flounder with some catching four fish limits of nice fish.
The Ocean Princess with Captain Victor Bunting had a good day on ocean structure today as well. Captain Victor put his anglers on flounder, sea bass, triggerfish and bluefish.
My buddy Eric Sexton fished with Eric and Benny on board the Four Eights with Captain Tod Cannady and banged the flounder pretty well today. The crew used bucktails and cut bluefish to land this line of nice flatties.
OC fishing legend Big Bird Cropper had Neighbor Dave on board today and had good luck in the bay. Neighbor Dave had the hot stick and landed red drum of 23″ and 24″ and a keeper bluefish.
David Herbst was out with Matt Ellis and caught some keeper flounder and a blowfish while jigging the west channel.
Captain Marc Spagnola of Dusk to Dawn Bowfishing took his lovely family out for some bowfishing this afternoon and gave them some opportunity to shoot. The ladies didn’t disappoint and put a couple of cow nosed rays in the boat.
