Hot and Flat Calm With Good Fishing

Sunny, no wind and I walked down to bring the trash can back to the house and I burnt my feet up on the street.  Damn.  It was the second day of this heatwave and we had temps in the mid and upper 90s with a heat index at almost 110 this afternoon.  That’s hot, but with little to no wind it was another good day to get out there and do some fishing, and fishing was good.

Captain Dale Lisi of the Foolish Pleasures had a fantastic day offshore for his anglers putting them on a white marlin release, a blue marlin release and seven fat yellowfin tuna.

Anglers fishing on board the MARLI today with Captain Mark Hoos had an awesome day with the yellowfin tuna putting 13 beautiful fish in the fish box.

Captain Alex Beane of the Boss Hogg put this group on four nice yellowfin tuna on yesterday’s trip to the canyons.

Captain Dave Caffrey of On the Run Charters had a great morning over ocean structure for his group with two sea bass, 10 triggerfish and 16 keeper flounder up to 6 pounds.

Anglers fishing on board he Tortuga out of Bahia Marina have had some luck putting keepers in the boat on the last few trips.

Captain Marc Spagnola of Dusk to Dawn Bowfishing has seen some great shooting for southern and cow nosed rays on the last several trips to the south bay.

Matthew Bertino caught this 21″ flounder just south of Harbor Island on a Captain’s rig with a Nuclear Chicken Gulp.

Sea Bass and a few Fluke on a gorgeous day – 7/3/26

Found a bit of SW wind in flags this morning – barely more than luffing really; sure made for a nice day.

June, Aiden & Mason made short work of our reef block drop. Gratitude reef grew by just a bit.

Fishing started off on a good note. Wasn’t hot nor was it slow – worked. Pretty much stayed that way. Lots of doubles – occasional keeper double – good fish on occasion – would that it were such everyday.

Aiden cashed in on his reef builder’s karma twice – heaviest cbass for the money, and heaviest fluke for a tshirt.

What little bit of swell we had to start was all gone by noon. Flat calm.

Gotta like that.

Jayda Rinker was fishing with Rich Daiker at the Route 50 bridge with live spot when she landed this big 27.5” flounder estimated at around 7 pounds.

Kevin McNelis, Terry McGean and Pat McGean found this nice yellowfin tuna in the Poorman’s Canyon today.
