Insane November Fishing

Insane November Fishing

We had one of the nicest all around days that we’ve had this fall today with very light winds, sunny skies and warm temperatures and anglers were able to take full advantage of it.  Limits of sea bass in November isn’t uncommon and keeper rockfish in the bay in November isn’t uncommon, but yellowfin tuna and swordfish in November are.   Throw them all together and you’ve got some insane November fishing that we got to see today.

The calm conditions and warm water temperatures lured some offshore boats out to the canyons today and most of them were rewarded handsomely.  The guys on the Reel Chaos with Captain Anthony Matarese Jr. had an insane day of swordfishing going 8 decked fish for 13 bites.  Captain John Prather of Ocean City Guide Service was along for the epic fishing.

My buddy Kevin Rohe from Mills Creek Builders and Kitchen Fancy was out in the deep today with Captain Brian Arni, Jim Conway and Chef Glen for some awesome November tuna fishing on board the Get Reel.  The crew fished the Poor Man’s Canyon where they boxed 8 yellowfin tuna and caught a mako shark.

Ryan Olberholtzer sent me this photo of himself with David Smith, Korey Knieriem, MIke Rasmus, Stan Musser and Jimmy “Jet Lag” Jones had a great day in the deep going five for five on yellowfin tuna.

Bottom fishing for the local party boat fleet was reely good today as well.  Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star reported that he “bagged out” on sea bass with every client and crew member catching a limit of 15 sea bass each.  Warren Fleming of Damascus, MD took the pool with his 18″ sea bass – Myron Toombs of Woodbridge, VA had a nice trigger – also pictured are Wayne Lee & James Hardy of Frederick, MD – Shailyn & Dr Ben Strahl of Berlin, – &  Dennis Cutcher of Catonsville, MD.

Captain Chris Mizurak of the Angler reported a good day of fishing over ocean structure today as well.  Captain Chris reported several limits of sea bass around his rail with a flounder mixed in as well.

Big Bird Cropper was out on the bay for some Roy Rigging and got a more than pleasant surprise when he landed this 31″ keeper rockfish for the cooler.

There are a lot of tautog being caught on the structure of the Ocean City bays lately, but you’re going to have to weed through a bunch of throwbacks in order to find a fish of 16″.  Erwin Guintu has been having a lot of fun catching tog from the rocks, but so far they’re close at 15″+.

I helped Dallas Harrington emcee his awards for the first ever Whitetail Open through his Non Typical Outdoor Supply.  Dallas had a great turnout and gave out some terrific prizes.

First Place in the big doe category was Ryan Megee who’s 128.8 lb doe won him a $350 gift card and $1,250.

2nd Place in the big buck category was Adam Daye who had a nice buck that scored 123 7/8″ and won him a new Mathew’s bow and a $150 gift card.

The big winner with the big buck award was none other than Wrecker mate Bobby Layton.  Bobby harvested a nice buck that scored 126 3/8″ and won Bobby a $150 gift card and $2,500 in cold, hard cash.
