There wasn’t much happening on the fishing front today with the stiff northeast breeze and overcast skies, but I did get a report thanks to a boat returning from a long overnight trip to the Hudson canyon. The crew of the private boat Instigator fishing out of Sunset Marina ventured to the Hudson and had an absolutely amazing trip. Matt and Steve Maggasey lead the crew to 29 total tunas that included three bigeye of 188, 190 and 205 pounds, 12 yellowfin tuna, one cod and 14 longfin tuna. One of which may be a new Maryland state record. Captain Marc Spagnola of Dusk to Dawn Bowfishing was lucky enough to be on the rod and Matt Magassey knew when he gaffed it that it was a very big longfin tuna. The big fish weighed in at 78 pounds on the official scale at Sunset Marina and once certified it will beat the current Maryland state record by one pound. Thomas Bodner caught the current Maryland record of 77 pounds on September 20 of 2022. Congratulations to Captain Marc and the crew of Instigator on an awesome trip and the potential state record longfin!

There wasn’t much fishing inshore either, but Captain Jason Mumford of Lucky Break Charters had another good day with sheepshead from the south jetty and flounder from the East Channel and OC Inlet.
