Inshore Mahi and Some Jumbo Sea Bass

Inshore Mahi and Some Jumbo Sea Bass

Hit the vid for the Daily Catch at Sunset Marina!

We had some torrential, and I mean torrential rainfall in Ocean Pines this afternoon for about an hour, but other than that it was a very, very nice day.  I got a chance to get out with Kristen this afternoon where we caught one bluefish at the route 50 bridge and then saw Michael Jordan’s new 80′ Bayliss “Catch 23” roll in the inlet before a beautiful sunset.  We also saw blue marlin and white marlin flags heading back to the dock.  It was a real nice evening!

The Judith M fishing out of Bahia Marina had a couple of 5 hour trips today and folks looked like they had a good time catching a bunch of sea bass on both.

Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star found some inshore mahi on today’s trip along with some very, very nice sea bass.

Nice Inshore Mahi & Some Jumbo Cbass 8/1/24..
Wait! What? A forecast of calm and it’s true??
Shades of Lily in Mel Brooks’ western, Blazing Saddles “It’s Twue! It’s Twue! It’s twue! (IYKYK..)
But first?
Fog.
Mates on lookout – radars – harbor horn inside, much louder air horn out front..
About 3 miles off we got a look, then a horizon.
Nice.
Jerry and granddaughter Destiny deployed a pair of pyramids made by Bear Materials & bolstered with bamboo at Capt Bob Gowar’s Memorial Reef.
Given it was a mahi trip today, we had a long way to go – and did.
NoJoy on green beauties at first, but jumbo sea bass obliged.
Nice start.
On my way to another spot Vic spotted something bobbing in the water. We pulled up next to it and put mahi rods in.
A single nice inshore fish was spotted.
That one became a decent little school of em.
They were hungry.
The rest we found today were not.
Still, with a bunch hooked up and jumping? A very fine memory for all aboard.
Would that August might continue as such..
Oh, Yesterday forecast Rain.
But no rain.
Today? Sun!
But heavy rain on the way in..
Cheers,
Monty
Lamont Hilbert used a bucktail with a Gulp to land this 19″ keeper flounder and 10 other throwbacks behind Assateague Island.

Check out my flounder limit from last week on the new YouTube vid!!
