Inshore Mahi Showing Up

Inshore Mahi Showing Up

Hit the vid for the final day of the Ocean City Tuna Tournament!

I’m making a Deadly Tackle rig run to the Jersey Shore today and the weather is just as hot up here as it is back in Ocean City.  The ocean was a little choppier than expected today, but it was still doable and fishing was decent.

Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star had a pretty good day of fishing today including some mahi that ended up on deck.

Flags loosely fluttering, forecasts all favorable with yesterday’s prognostications having dropped; clearing the inlet we found as calm a sea as you’d like with a little bit of white and remnant swell.
By the time we were 8 miles out I knew it wasn’t going to be so. Whiter, taller, closer together; I kept a close eye in case it looked to become untenable.
Not nice, but certainly fishable; Stelio deployed a pair of pyramids at Calder’s Reef and we got to it. Anglers had just nicked a few sea bass when a keeper mahi made himself known (and iced in Luke’s box) from a grass line that drifted by.
So a bit of mahi fishing ensued with some success – mostly on throwback ‘grasshoppers’ (I think that’s what they call em down south.)
Dreams of our first good day on mahi soon crushed; got back to sea bassing where the jig was more fruitful – but not by a lot.
Luke took the pool with a good cbass..
Tomorrow I have a light rail with some good clients. Have cut sales off at 12 (but still the reg sea bass price) so I can try mahi some more. Have two spots left for that.
Mostly micro-mahi so far but one never knows…
Cheers,
Monty
The Judith M out of Bahia Marina has seen some decent fishing with keeper sea bass and some flounder on recent trips.
Captain Chris Mizurak of the Angler reported tougher fishing today, but he did have another youngin’ win the fish pool.
Anglers fishing with Captain Kane Bounds of the Fish Bound have enjoyed some good flounder fishing in the ocean along with some sheepshead on his short evening trips.
Captain Jason Mumford of Lucky Break Charters treated his anglers to some good fishing in the OC inlet with throwback rockfish and flounder action with keeper bluefish.
Captain Dave Caffrey of On the Run charters had some of the same for his anglers with short rockfish and flounder with some keeper bluefish.

Captain Will from Local Hooker Charters had a good day and put this angler on an 18.5” keeper flounder.
