Man, you want to talk about a good couple of days of fishing!! I’m used to writing reports about tuna, mahi, rockfish, sea bass and flounder in September, but this is December bro! Rockfish, sea bass and flounder in December is one thing, but to have reports of several tuna and mahi out in the canyons is absurd….but awesome! One boat even had what they think were bigeye bites….awesome stuff!
Yesterday Josh Ensor took the Reel Life out to the Poor Man’s Canyon and had a terrific day! Josh, Jeff Rosenkilde, Addison Baumgardner, Joseph C. and Sean Notsureofhislastname had 12 tuna bites, came tight on seven and killed five. They also caught three mahi on lobster balls. Right at dusk they had what they think was a bigeye bite. Report is. the fish almost spooled them before it came unglued so I tend to agree with the bigeye guess. The action took place trolling in 64 degree water.
I got a report from Captain Chris Mizurak on the Angler today who says fishing was good today. Captain Chris had good sea bass numbers with several limits around the rail with fish up to 4 pounds. They also had a few flounder mixed in, the largest a 6 pounder.
Day 2 of the 3rd Annual Ocean City Marlin Club Rockfish Tournament was today as well. Two nice fish hit the dock to take over 1st and 2nd place. The Apex weighed a nice 42″, 28 pound rock good for 2nd and the Big Billin threw a slob on the dock. Their 47.5″, 39.6 pounder is going to be a tough fish to beat. Here’s how it breaks down after two days.
3rd Place 22.8 Pounds 40″ Length 22″ Girth Yellowfin
2nd Place 28 Pounds 42″ Length 23″ Girth Apex
1st Place 39.6 Pounds 47.5″ Length 27″ Girth Big Billin’
