Now that Labor Day has come and gone and kids are back in school Ocean City’s charter business turns into a mostly weekend thing. It’s a great time to book a trip if you can go during the week because the fishing is still really good and there are not as many boats out there.
There is still a good marlin bite going on, but it is south….like way south. The water is below the Norfolk Canyon so it’s a really long day trip so most boats are going and staying overnight and returning some time the next afternoon. It is a good bite and the numbers can be good if you feel like making the trip.
If there’s anyone who knows the fishing out of Ocean City it is Captain Joe Drosey on Rhonda’s Osprey out of Sunset Marina. Captain Joe has been fishing Ocean City for a long time and does well putting customers on the meat. Today was no different for Captain Joe and crew as they hosted Buddy Trala from Sunset Grille and released a white marlin and had eight mahi for the box.
The bay seems to be cleaning up a little as the wind has subsided but if you’re flounder fishing the ocean wrecks are still the way to go. Flounder belly, mahi belly and bigger buck tails tipped with 6″ Gulp are your best bet. Keep the net handy because if you get on the right wreck you can catch a bunch.
This Friday marks the anniversary of the most horrific terrorist attack in our country’s history and it is a day to reflect and remember. The Ocean City Fishing Center commemorates the day by having an awesome tournament filled with prizes that is fun for the whole family. If you can make it over there you definitely want to fish in the 15th Annual September 11th Spot Fishing Tournament. It’s only $5 to enter and it’s a great time!
