We had another awesome December day today with mild temperatures and very light winds. Plenty nice enough for the ocean going party boat fleet to get out and do some bottom fishing and for some of the offshore fleet to get out to the canyons to do some deep dropping. Even though the Primary Search has caught two opah in the course of a month, they’ve done it while deep dropping for their target species of swordfish. Today the crew of the Goin’ in Deep was targeting swordfish as well….and they caught a big one.
You may remember the Goin’ in Deep from this summer’s MidAtlantic Tournament where they caught a 184 pound yellowfin tuna and a 680 pound blue marlin that won them over $1 Million in prize money. So it’s obvious that these guys are experienced in catching sea monsters of all kinds. Captain Walter Harmstead, Anthony Scardino, Mikey, Justin Tonks, Deane and Sal fished offshore of Ocean City today and cruised in to Sunset Marina to get some fuel before heading back to NJ. Dave Messick of Hooked on OC was on scene to get some great shots before the guys took off. When they got back to their dock they were able to weigh the big broadbill and it tipped out at a whopping 473 pounds. Congratulations to Captain Walt and the crew of Goin’ in Deep on their huge swordfish.

Bottom fishing on ocean structure was good today too. Captain Chris Mizurak of the Angler reported good fishing today with lots of clients having their limit of sea bass up to 3 pounds and some nice flounder up to 4.5 pounds.
