It was another good day of fishing for the Fish in OC fleet today. The weather cooperated again today with nice sea conditions and sunny skies. The fleet is fishing all over the ocean for different species and having much success.
The chunking in the Washington Canyon is good for yellowfin and bigeye, the marlin bite is good in the Baltimore and Poor Man’s Canyons and deep dropping for tilefish and sea bass is good in all three.
I’ll start with a report that I can give you a first hand account of. I had the pleasure of fishing on the Moore Bills with Captain Rob Skillman and mate Steve Moore today filming an upcoming episode of Hooked on OC and we decided to hit the Washington Canyon and try our luck chunking. We had our first bite just minutes after setting up and had a small yellowfin to the boat in just minutes. After that it was steady action pretty much all day with small skipjack tuna, yellowfin tuna and sharks. The sharks were biting us off most of the day and we had to weed through several skipjacks and less than 27″ yellowfin, but by the end of the day we were able to box three nice yellowfin tuna in the 50 pound class.
The Boss Hogg out of Sunset Marina with Captain Brian Porter put his crew on several species of fish after chunking and deep dropping in the Washington. The Boss Hogg ended up with two 50+ pound yellowfin, 10 nice mahi, 32 sea bass, and 40 tilefish including one bruiser.
Captain Joe Drosey on board Rhonda’s Osprey had another beautiful day trolling the canyons for white marlin today. Captain Joe says, “The Hanshaw kids strike again!” Bruce and little Randy had a great day on the water with their family. Captain Joe reports six nice mahi, a white marlin release and a rare spearfish release.
The Wrecker with Captain Jeremy Blunt and mate Brian Behe fished the 2nd and final day of the Ocean City Marlin Club Kid’s Classic Tournament today with some adorable junior anglers. The Wrecker was able to take 1st and 3rd place bluefish with their catch.
The Ocean City Marlin Club held it’s 11th Annual Kid’s Classic Tournament over the weekend with scales at Sunset Marina and it was another awesome event. This is a really terrific tournament for getting kids excited about fishing and hoping that they continue in our sport. Here are some great photos provided by Amanda Shick of the OCMC.
