It was a hot one today buddy! It was 90 degrees in Ocean Pines and 85 when I was in West Ocean City this morning. The wind puffed up a little bit inshore this afternoon, but the party boat fleet and some of the offshore guys were able to get out and take advantage of this early season fishing.
I received a Facebook submission this morning from Captain Bill Vernon of the Big Billin’ out of Indian River with a photo of a HUGE mahi. Captain Bill put angler Chris Middendorf on this beautiful 46 pound mahi in 500 fathoms of the Norfolk Canyon yesterday. The big bull, which is the largest I’ve seen so far this year, came up on a teaser and they switched him to a ballyhoo. The crew also caught five other gaffer mahi.
Chad and Wendy Gauss from Baltimore, MD took their restaurant crew from The Food Market onboard the charter boat MARLI with Captain Mark Hoos and mate Mark Stephens today. They had no shortage of action as they boxed 18 mahi fishing just below the Norfolk Canyon. Of course Wendy caught the largest. Well done!
The crew of the Talkin’ Trash with Captain Chris Little was out in the warm water in the Norfolk Canyon today and had a good day with the pelagics. Captain Chris put his crew on three yellowfin tuna and a dozen mahi.
Captain Monty Hawkins of the party boat Morning Star sent in this photo of Nancy Bass (yes that’s her real last name) who took her first trip out in the ocean today with Captain Monty and caught sea bass quite nicely.
