Last Sea Bass For A Month

Last Sea Bass For A Month

Man I hate days off!  When I get the day off that means that fishing sucked….and I’ve basically had the last three days off.  Hurricane, and then tropical storm Jose’ moved by off of our coast and roughed seas up for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.  He was close enough on Tuesday that we had strong winds and bands of rain on land in our area, but all things considered we were very fortunate.  Now hurricane Maria is blazing a trail in this direction and looks to rough up the ocean sometime next week.  Let’s enjoy the day we had today and the beautiful weekend forecast that we have right now and we’ll worry about Maria next week.

Today was the last day sea bass season until it reopens on October 22 and it was a good day for it.  Captain Chris Mizurak of the Angler had a terrific day of fishing with some triggerfish and flounder and a boat limit of sea bass.  In case you’re not sure what boat limit means….that’s everyone on board had their limit of 15 12 1/2″ sea bass.

There was some pretty good flounder fishing in the back bay today.  Captain John Prather of Ocean City Guide Service had two good trips today.  This morning Captain John put his anglers on two nice keepers from the north bay and this afternoon Captain John had a great trip catching two more keepers with our good friend Lynn Jarmon from Atlantic Tackle.

Bear down at the Oceanic Pier sent in a couple of photos of keeper flounder today.  Janet Boyer of Harrisburg, PA landed this 17 3/4″ keeper that weighed 1.75 pounds and Mrs. Fatime from Hatfield, PA caught a big 5.8 pounder with a Gotcha plug from the route 50 bridge.

Fish in OC and Hooked on OC are teaming up to bring you a new inshore fishing tournament called the Ocean City Inshore Classic.  The Inshore Classic will be held Saturday and Sunday, October 14 and 15 and is a 32 hour tournament that you can fish all 32 hours of if you’d like.  Lines are in at 7 AM on Saturday and out at 3 PM on Sunday.  There will be categories for rockfish, flounder, tautog and open.  Check out our Facebook event for more details.  FishinOC.com/InshoreClassic
