Marlin, Tuna, Mahi, Flounder, Sheep and More

Marlin, Tuna, Mahi, Flounder, Sheep and More

It was a beautiful day out there today!!  A little noisy with Bike Week in town, but an awesome day to be outside riding or doing a little fishing.  The ocean was calm and inviting and fishing was good both inshore and offshore on a gorgeous day.

Captain Chris Watkowski of the Spring Mix II had a great day in the canyons today with a yellowfin tuna, a white marlin release and five gaffer sized mahi.  Spring Mix has some open spots for next Monday and Friday for anyone looking to jump on a make-up.

Anglers fishing with Captain Mark Hoos aboard the Marli today had a great day as well with a white marlin release and a pile of mahi.

Capitan Kane Bounds of the Fish Bound has been all over the flounder lately and today it was more of the same with some beautiful fish coming over the rail.

Jimmy and Lisa Coe from Las Vegas, NV had a great day on the Miss Kathleen out of Bahia Marina catching a pile of sea bass up to 17″.

Captain Jason Mumford of Lucky Break had another nice day with good fishing for his groups.  Captain Jason put his folks on keeper flounder, some nice sheepshead and some bonus croaker, spot and blowfish.

David Moore hit the Assateague surf on Wednesday evening and caught and released a big 51″ red drum.  He also caught a nice sheepshead from the north jetty wall.

Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star is back on the water after a short time off, and his anglers couldn’t be happier.

Such a gorgeous morning; calm seas, a bit of color east at sun rise – great start to a day.
Haven’t seen shoals of menhaden so common in late August & September. Don’t know why.
Unusual. Ocean water’s been plenty strange this summer. After a 6 week long painful stretch of cold bottom temps at least sea bass are chewing now.
Nick deployed a 20 block unit and a reef pyramid made by Bear Concrete at “The Forgotten Block Drop” – we were soon fishing.
Anne and Lette bagged out at 12:13 – I’d have bet money on Kelvin, but no. He let the ladies get done first this day – Holly too.
But the pool money?
Nah. He put that in his pocket!
Another 208 pyramids joined the Kinsley Construction Bass Grounds Reef Restoration site in the wee hours of Monday, Sept 8th. Makes 1,172 there..
On their way to another task (and likely far better paying!) Capt Stormy and crew aboard the Tiki XIV were busy deploying pyramids from both Kinsley Construction & Bear Concrete at 2am Monday..
Sheesh.
Dead accurate too.
Really building out some acreage there.
I was told in the 1950s & 60s it was a rare summer when boats had to go beyond the Bass Grounds for sea bass.
Maybe we’ll see that kind of fishing there again one day..
Cheers,
Monty
