I had the pleasure of being offshore myself today with my good friend Captain Luke Blume on the C Boys out of Sunset Marina. Captain Luke and owner Paul Crampton III were nice enough to invite me and my son Ryan along today to shoot an episode of Hooked on OC…..I’ll get to that in a minute.
We were first hand witnesses to the slower tuna bite in the Norfolk canyon today, but there were still some fish caught and some boats had very good days. The Wrecker with Captain Jeremy Blunt out of The Ocean City Fishing Center had about the best of it catching 23 yellowfin tuna, boxing 13 of them and also catching 3 nice mahi. Captain Jeremy also got a nice shot of some of the storm that gave us some rain while we were out.
Captain Joe Drosey on Rhonda’s Osprey out of Sunset Marina had his first trip of the season out of Ocean City today and caught his crew some tuna as well. Captain Joe boxed seven yellowfin and some nice mahi on today’s trip.
Our trip aboard the C Boys with Captain Luke Blume was a lot of fun and should make for a good episode of Hooked on OC. My son Ryan, myself, cameraman Rusty Mclendon and Captain Luke’s son Joshua joined owner Paul Crampton III and his buddies Brandon, Ben and Wes and ventured down to the Norfolk Canyon. We thought it was going to be an awesome day when first thing in the morning a white marlin jumped on a hook and moments later Brandon released the fish for his first ever. He backflipped into the water back at the marina to finish the tradition of going in the drink after catching your first white. We finished the day in the Washington Canyon and caught one tuna there for a total of two legal yellowfin and a couple of nice mahi. The kids were able to catch some of the fish, Brandon caught his first ever white marlin and Paul and the crew could not have been more hospitable. We’ll link the episode of Hooked on OC here in a few weeks.
Austin Ensor had a good day on the water yesterday with the tuna fish. Austin and his crew of Mike Copeland, Daniel Belle, Jordan Bosse and Jason McFadden were 5/5 on yellowfin tuna and also had a couple of mahi. Some of the tuna were firsts for their anglers which is always cool.
Captain John Prather on Ocean City Guide Service has had a nice Memorial Weekend with his clients. Captain John has had some steady light tackle action with the shad, bluefish and throwback rockfish and has also put his bow fishermen on some nice cow nosed rays.
The 7th Annual Ocean City Marlin Club Memorial Day is in the books after two days of fishing. Yesterday was such a nice day that most of the participating boats fished and all of the fish on the board were weighed yesterday. Here’s how the tournament winners look. Thanks to Amanda Shick and Dave Messick for the photos.
