I had the pleasure of fishing with my good friend Richard Benn on his 57′ Spencer Yacht Wound Up today to film an upcoming episode of our television show Hooked on OC today. Captain Butch Cox was at the helm and Captain Rob Belcher was in the cockpit. We left the dock this morning at 5:30 and headed offshore to the Norfolk Canyon in search of some of the good white marlin fishing that has come from that area. One mullet dredge, one ballyhoo dredge, one ballyhoo teaser and seven baits were in the water at 8:30 and we were on the troll. By the end of the trip today we had released 4 white marlin and boxed four gaffer mahi including this stud 35 pounder. My buddy Filcho “Phil” Filchev caught his first white marlin and I was lucky enough to reel in the big mahi. Dave Messick of Hooked on OC was a wizard with the cameras, working three handhelds and a GoPro to capture all of the footage. It was an awesome trip to the deep and should make for a great episode.
On the charter side of things today, Captain Luke Blume on the White Lightning out of Sunset Marina had a great trip overnight to the canyons returning today. Captain Luke and mate John Griffith put their crew on a nice mahi and two bigeye tuna weighing 155 and 189 pounds.
Rhonda’s Osprey with Captain Joe Drosey also out of Sunset Marina had a really nice gaffer mahi today as well, and added a wahoo for good measure.
Inshore, Captain John Prather on The Ocean City Guide Service continues to slay the flounder. Today Captain John put his party on six nice flatties on an inshore wreck using Gulp and strip baits.
