The Maryland Department of Natural Resources has announced by public notice that there will be changes to the MD commercial and recreational tautog fishery effective May 16 at 12:01 AM. The new regulations are as follows:
- May 16 — June 30 Closed Season
- July 1 — October 31 – 2 fish/person/day
- November 1 — December 31 – 4 fish/person/day
- Minimum size limit will remain 16″ and all other rules will remain the same.
The main takeaway from the changes are that the MD tautog season will reopen for the month of December and be closed from May 16 until July 1. Thankfully for now MD sea bass season opens on May 15 and other inshore species should be available for anglers by the May 16 tautog closure.
