Nice Day. Nice Catch.

Nice Day. Nice Catch.

Hope this marlin fishing sticks around….Check the Daily Catch at Sunset Marina!

We had some heavy cloud cover and a short shower around this morning, but by this afternoon it was sunny, warm and pleasant.  It was a nice day to be out on the water, though there weren’t a ton of folks out doing it.

Captain Jason Mumford of Lucky Break Charters was out on the bay this afternoon and his anglers were happy about that.  They had fun catching some bluefish and some throwback stripers in the OC Inlet.

Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star had a light rail today, but he was able to find those folks some good fishing with some in double digits.

Nice Day, Nice Catch ..despite more silly forecast games. Weatherman I use most said Rain & Wind first, then rain & wind with decreasing wind early. NOAA’s forecast had some early showers with WIND all day. An old friend & among masters of the US billfish circuit sent me a paid subscription forecast that would have held most skippers in port.
But it was for SSW winds.. Unless a straight 20/25+? You’ve got to go see.
And, with most clients refraining from the day given precip in the forecast, I took 5 clients and my favorite Uncle’s grandson (thot maybe his mom would ante up for the “one way” fare so many mothers of teenage boys dream of – wasn’t happening! She wants him back!) ..& off we went.
Ocean appeared angry at first. Pretty close to twenty knots I expect. A little while later it had decreased some.
Then a lot.
Not a calm day. Plenty fishable though.
As for rain? The briefest of sprinkles while fishing left me in want of my “Reef Builder” Hook Sunglasses within moments.. (and yes, I really did test three major sunglass brands against them in harsh early evening glare – Hook were the stand outs!)
Now today Tyler dropped a pair of reef pyramids donated by Bear Materials on my Mom’s reef that were bundled with fresh-cut bamboo. The idea is to temporarily broaden the reef material’s footprint as the smallest sea bass begin moving on off. They’ll make use of it – promise.
From there?
A bit deeper.
And they bit.
Amid a nice catch today Ms Holly, in double digits, outcaught the boys to be high hook, but Don took 1st, 2nd & 3rd place in the pool! (Ahh, only first pays..)
Perhaps my lightest rail ever on a July weekday, yet a great day to have been aboard. Who can figure.
Cheers,
Monty
