I just returned from signing my son Ryan up for the 13th Annual Kid’s Classic Tournament hosted by the Ocean City Marlin Club and it sounds like it’s going to be awesome. The Fish in OC Carolina Skiff with angler Ryan Lenox was boat 68 out of 69 and counting the Wish A Fish kids that will be fishing this weekend the tournament will host over 400 junior anglers. This is one of my favorite tournaments of the entire season because it gets the kids away from the video games and out on the water enjoying the sport that I love so dearly. The Marlin Club does an excellent job with this event (like they do with every event) and everyone has a great time. Good luck to all of the junior anglers.
We had a good day of fishing today all things considered. It was a hot one again, but the fishing was pretty good inshore and offshore and that makes it easy to deal with. Captain Luke Blume and mate Jon Henry have been on a tear lately stringing three really nice days together. Today it was a white marlin release and five nice yellowfin for Tom Palmer and his crew. Captain Luke reported fishing the Wilmington Canyon and was lucky enough to catch every bite that they had.
The crew of Talkin’ Trash with Captain Chris Little had some luck with the yellowfin today. Captain Chris put his crew on 8 yellowfin out of 15 bites for a total of 317 pounds for the fish cleaners.
The Restless Lady crews had some good fishing today out of the Talbot Street Pier. Restless Lady with Captain Todd Kurtz and mate Tito had six healthy yellowfin tuna and the Jade II with Captain Ed Kauffman and mate Brian Hazard had six fish for the box as well.
Captain Joe Drosey of Rhonda’s Osprey put his anglers on some meat today putting four yellowfin tuna in the box.
The ocean going party boat fleet reported nice sea conditions and good bottom fishing today. Captain Monty Hawkins of the party boat Morning Star submitted these photos of Paul and Sammy Greene from Annapolis, MD with some really nice sea bass and Terry who pulled a nice 23″ fluke off of an ocean wreck today.
Captain Chris Mizurak of the party boat Angler reported good fishing on ocean structure today as well. Captain Chris put his anglers on some good sea bass action and a couple of keeper flounder too.
Though there are A LOT of throwback flounder in the bay, the inshore fleet has been doing really well with catching fish. Captain Jason Mumford of Lucky Break Charters had a great day finding some keeper sized flounder today. Captain Jason also did some near shore shark fishing where he put one lucky angler on a small thresher shark.
Inshore charter boat Ocean City Guide Service with Captain John Prather has been having luck with the inshore sharking too, and he has also been putting clients on some excellent bowfishing. Captain John caught and released this juvenile hammerhead shark and put these shooters on some big cow nosed rays.
Another of our inshore charter partners had some awesome family fun with the flounder today. Captain Jeff Coats of Pitboss Fishing had anglers in the Bad Influence today and though there weren’t a lot of keepers for the box, there was a bunch of fun with throwback flounder action.
Ocean City Parks and Recreation held their fishing camp this week and today it ended with a fun trip aboard the Happy Hooker. Here our friends Mikey and Luke Pitarra display a couple of the throwback flounder that the kids caught. I saw the boys this evening and Mikey said they had a great time!
Bear down at the Oceanic Pier said there have been some flounder and bluefish being caught at the pier lately. This lucky angler caught one of the larger bluefish lately when he reeled this beauty in.
