Today was definitely one of the more volatile weather days of the spring with some hit or miss fog and some heavy rain at times, but at other times it was sunny and warm with a light breeze. It was definitely a good day to get on the water as long as you kept a lookout for approaching weather.
The Fish in OC inshore charter fleet is starting to roll now that spring has arrived in full force and the bay is full of fish. Captain John Prather of Ocean City Guide Service had a couple of great trips today. Baylor Hoen of Bishopville, MD and Carson Rayne of Willards, MD had a nice trip putting a bunch of snapper blues and a keeper flounder on the dock. Some casting in the OC inlet produced a rare keeper sized rockfish for Jason Goozh of Bethesda, MD. Jason’s rock was a nice 30″er and was a nice surprise for the cooler.
Captain Jason Mumford of Lucky Break Charters has had a nice weekend of charter fishing and has put some quality fish in the box. Captain Jason has been all over the snapper bluefish in the inlet too and has put several keeper flounder up to 24″ in the boat from behind Assateague Island.
Chasin Tides Charters with Captain Chase Eberle at the helm fished the OC inlet area today where he put his anglers on some catch and release rockfish action and a tub full of snapper bluefish.
Captain Marc Spagnola of Dusk to Dawn Bowfishing had the bows in the truck for his fishing trip today. Captain Marc, wife Mindy and Alyana used Fish in OC Deadly Double rigs in the Thorofare and were rewarded with several throwback flounder and two keepers for dinner.
Brendan Hanley of Pure Lure RFG caught one of the largest flounder that I’ve seen from the Fish in OC Deadly Double rigs so far when he landed this beauty of a 24″ flattie while fishing with his fishing partner Scott Wells on a trip to Wachapreague, VA.
My buddy Scotty Peters fished the Thorofare flats today and put six nice keeper flounder in the box on flounder belly.
Mike Runkles submitted an email with a couple of photos with some trip details that sounded like an episode of Hooked on OC today!!……Hey Scott never sent you a report before but you told me to let you know how the “Deadly Doubles” worked out and they produced. Fished the Thorofare this morning and ended up with 3 throw backs and 2 keepers 18″ & 17-1/2″ . Had a little lunch and an orange crush at Harborside then caught a few blues in the inlet on Roy Rigs. Great day!!!
Big Bird Cropper and “Neighbor” Dave Leizier headed out for Dave’s birthday today and had a great day casting Roy Rigs. The guys caught their limit of bluefish…..and then some that were released…..and about 15 rockfish at the route 50 bridge.
Andrea Weber, Michele Caraffa and Jacob Grayson caught some bluefish on the Tortuga’s first trip of the season today, and Eric May landed a 2 pound 4 ounce flounder that hit the board in our season long Doormat Derby.
Bob Haltmeier of the Oceanic Pier reported some awesome bluefish and shad action from the Oceanic Pier this weekend. Anglers are having great luck catching on small bucktails and spec rigs.
Jordan Helsel of PA fished his kayak with Roy Rigs today and caught a mixed bag off of the rig. Jordan and his dad caught some flounder and snapper bluefish from the inlet to the route 50 bridge.
Cole Cooper was fishing with Steve Cooper today on Assateague Island when he hooked this nice black drum in the surf on a clam bait.
David Ulicne from Duncansville, PA and Kristin Horn from Nanty Glo, PA had a great time catching and releasing some throwback stripers today.
Captain Chris Mizurak had the Angler out for the first trip of the season today and had some good tautog action with some keepers mixed in.
Don’t forget the Ocean City Reef Foundation’s annual dinner at Seacrets tomorrow from 4:30 until 8 PM.
