Today started with some wicked thunderstorm activity in the area followed by some pretty heavy rain, but by mid day it was sunny with a light breeze and absolutely beautiful. There were lots of anglers out on the bay, the surf and the ocean and there were lots of fish caught. I heard the first mako of the season was caught today and there was a crazy story of a live swordfish that beached itself on Assateauge Island only to be be put back in the ocean and swim away.
I had the pleasure of taking a trip to Wachapreague, Virginia to do some flounder fishing with my good friend Captain Brian Behe on board his Buffalo Hunter Guide Service for an upcoming episode of Hooked on OC. We didn’t have a lot of time to fish since we had some child obligations, but we definitely made the most of it catching five total flounder with three nice keepers. Captain Brian guides these trips to the eastern shore of Virginia and the Pocomoke river and both trips are an awesome time. Give him a ring if you’re interested in having some fun in some beautiful spots on the shore. Dave Messick of Hooked on OC took some great shots of the trip!
Captain Monty Hawkins had the party boat Morning Star in the ocean again today after a weather hiatus and put Steve on this pretty female tautog that he promptly tagged and released.
The bluefish bite at the Oceanic Pier in downtown Ocean City is bordering on obscene. There have been hundreds of 10+ pound bluefish pulled over the rail at the pier in the past week or so and anglers are having a blast.
Ayrton “The Kayak Kid” Pryor was at it again this afternoon. He and Jacob Lewis caught two nice bluefish of 10 and 12.5 pounds.
