The good news is that even though the MD tautog season has closed there are still plenty of other fish biting really well to keep anglers busy. The great news is that the weather is also cooperating. I can remember a time when tog season would close and the local party boat fleet would basically shut down for the month of December….not this year. The guys are having some great luck with sea bass, a few flounder and even a few triggerfish and bluefish still mixed in there. The weather has been good a lot of days lately too which is a real blessing. Mother Nature can be pretty temperamental this time of year so it’s nice to have good fishing, and good weather to get to it.
Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star had happy crew on board with a good catch of sea bass and a really good flounder. “Uncle” Ralph Mueller brought the girls on board for the trip and they (according to Captain Monty) “trounced him and everybody else. The big flounder was a nice 26″er!
The Angler with Captain Chris Mizurak had a good day out on the ocean today as well. Captain Chris reported beautiful sea conditions and good fishing. Everyone on board had a limit or close to it of sea bass with a few keeper flounder, and there were some coolers that went home full.
Big Bird Cropper of the Ocean City Fishing Community had a good day of Roy Rigging today. Bird put his buddy Dave on a 21″ rockfish and a 25″ red drum.
