The weather turned on Friday and several boats fishing the last day of the 42nd Annual White Marlin Open did a 180 back to the dock and didn’t even fish their third day because sometimes it’s just not worth it. The north east wind has continued through the weekend and most every ocean-going boat, whether charter or party, has been tied fast to the dock.
Inshore the story has been about the same. I asked an inshore fishing buddy how conditions were and if it was worth trying to catch some of the croaker that have shown up in our back bays, and he said quite simply, “don’t waste your time”.
The north east wind is supposed to subside some tomorrow, but conditions will remain tough through Monday night into Tuesday when the forecast calls for the wind to change direction which should help knock the seas down.
Weather is one of those things that we fishermen have to deal with, and when Mother Nature gets mean, we retie rigs, sharpen hooks, change the oil and take care of some housekeeping…..or hit Sunset Grille and then Harborside.
