OC Marlin Club Canyon-Kick Off Day 2 and A Mud Marlin

We had change to the leaderboard on day 2 of the Ocean City Marlin Club Canyon Kick-Off Tournament this evening over at Sunset Marina.  The Buckshot out of Sunset Marina jumped into the billfish release lead with 300 points thanks to three White Marlin releases.

Buckshot 3 whites, dolphin

Captain Andy Helms on board Reel Joy out of Sunset Marina hit the board with a nice 13.8 pound Dolphin.

Here’s how the rest of the leaderboard looks after 2 days of fishing.

Offshore today was what Captain Mark Hoos called “not so ideal conditions “.  The cool front pushing off the coast left the seas a little angry and rain, wind and rough seas are not “ideal”.  However, the Bluefins are so close to the beach it was worth a shot.

Captain Jeremy Blunt and mate Brian Behe on board the Wrecker out of The Ocean City Fishing Center had a great day!  Captain Jeremy put his crew on two nice Bluefin, released six more, had three nice Dolphin and released a White Marlin.  We sometimes affectionately refer to White Marlin caught inshore as mud marlin because they are just usually not caught that shallow nowadays.

Captain Mark Hoos on the Marli out of Sunset Marina fished inshore for the Bluefin as well and had one heck of a day.  Captain Mark reports that this MARLI crew braved the elements on Saturday July 4th. They boxed their Bluefin limit (2 unders & 1 over) 1gaffer Mahi and released 20 additional Bluefins in not so ideal conditions (rain, wind & rough seas). They were fishing with Captain Mark Hoos and Mate Mark Stephens.

Inshore Captain John Prather on the Ocean City Guide Service is still tearing up the Flounder.  White gulp are still getting it done in the east channel, behind Assateague Island and around Harbor Island.  Here is one of Captain John’s patriotic customers with a couple of nice flatties!

I hope you all had a safe and happy 4th of July and enjoyed your fireworks displays (if they happened tonight).  Final day of fishing for the Ocean City Marlin Club Canyon Kick-Off is tomorrow.  Don’t miss the scales action at Sunset Marina from 5PM-7:30PM.
