We had much milder temperatures today than we have had the past week and the chilly wind laid down enough for some of the local party boat fleet to get out on the rip for some drops to see if there are still some sea bass or flounder around. Folks will take any weather window that they can get this time of year and being that tautog season is still closed for another couple of weeks it’s nice that there have been some other bottom fish snapping to keep rods bent and anglers smiling.
Speaking of anglers, the Angler with Captain Chris Mizurak took advantage of today’s weather and got some clients out to see what’s biting. Captain Chris reported a good day that started by weeding through the dog sharks, but ended with several nice sea bass up to 2.5 pounds and flounder as big as 5.5 pounds.
The 5th Annual Ocean City Marlin Club Rockfish Tournament is in the books and after a tough week of fishing the results are in. The crew of the Nontypical with Captain Terry Layton took 1st place with a nice 36.8 pound rock that they caught early this week. Nontypical won over $7,000 for their first place fish.
Second and third place were won by the crew of the Hellbent with fish of 32.3 and 31.2 pounds. Hellbent received a little over $2,800 for their second and third place finishes. Congratulations to all of the boats that cashed in the OCMC Rockfish Tournament and thanks to Amanda Shick for the results and the pics!
