It was another beautiful day in Ocean City today with light winds and sunny skies, and the thermometer read over 80 degrees for part of the day. We’re in for more of the same over the next several days so it’s shaping up to be an awesome Memorial Weekend.
The big news today was the tuna fishing in the Norfolk Canyon. Robert Harris and his crew whacked Ocean City’s first limit of 24 yellowfin tuna on the charter boat Marli with Captain Mark Hoos and mate Mark Stephens out of Sunset Marina. The tuna were caught in 73 degree water in the Norfolk canyon on a combination of ballyhoo and spreader bars. Take a close look at the tail of the third tuna back on the dock on the left side and you’ll see where it was grabbed by a hungry mako shark during the fight.
Dave Messick of Hooked on OC did a great Daily Catch video of the Marli’s catch that you can check out here.

The Boss Hogg also out of Sunset Marina ventured out to the Norfolk as well today and was rewarded with a catch of 21 yellowfin, a nice mahi and a mako shark release. These tuna were also caught on a combination of ballyhoo and spreader bars.
You want to talk about a cool shot….take a look at this pic that the crew of the Boss Hogg captured when a mako was eating one of their yellowfin too.
Inshore of the canyons the fishing was good too. Captain Chris Mizurak on the party boat Angler reported good sea bass fishing today. Ron Davis caught his limit of nice sea bass including this beautiful 3.5 pound knothead.
Bear on the Oceanic Pier also reported beautiful conditions all day and a good bluefish bite both on the pier and on the north sea wall just east of the pier. Happy from PA was catching double headers on the sea wall and Katie caught some nice fish including a 20″ bluefish.
