Ocean Flounder Fishing is Picking Up

Ocean Flounder Fishing is Picking Up

It was a pretty hot and humid Sunday today with a little bit of rain in spots, but overall it wasn’t a washout so there were some folks out trying to bend a rod before kids head back to school this week.  If your kids are already back to school……sorry about your luck.

Captain Kane Bounds of the Fish Bound had a great week of fishing this week putting his anglers on tilefish, mahi, sea bass and flounder.  And he reports that thankfully flounder fishing in the ocean is picking up a bit.  It’s about time.

Brett Gladfelter fished a couple of miles off of Assateague Island yesterday where he found all kinds of life including this 50″ cobia that ate a live eel.

Anglers fishing on board Chasin’ Tides Charters with Captain Chase Eberle had another great day of ocean fishing filling the box with golden tilefish, a limit of blueline tilefish and a limit of mahi.

Captain Nick Sampson of the WOP had another good day with this family putting them on mahi, bluefish and flounder.

Rachel Harrison caught this “gaffer” mahi fishing on board the private boat Motley out of Ocean City.

Stacey Schindler caught her limit of flounder up to 22″ fishing the route 50 bridge with Rich Daiker.

Christie Whittington sent this photo in of Ray Whittington who caught a nice keeper flounder behind Assateague today on the Deadly Tackle Deadly Double in white with a white Gulp.

Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star had another good day with the mahi today.

Flags luffing just so in light southerlies; a bit of ground swell was all that remained of distant winds from a few days back. Cheryl & Stacie deployed an 18 reef block unit, while Jay sent a pair of reef pyramids by the aft rail atop Lucas Alexander’s Reef. Mate Joe took a secci disk reading of 6.5 fathoms – nice – before heading east a good while more.
At our first drop it was game on – nice school of hungry peanut dolphin.
Unfortunately, some clients just weren’t quite up to speed – too soon for the motherload! We successfully caught a few fish ..then one monster tangle ensued.
Mahi mayhem on the first drop?
Yup!
Maybe I should do a practice drift some days..
We nicked a handful of mahi most everywhere we went; had some goose egg drifts too – a few more nice shots of mayhem too, including our last drift of the day..
Don from Philly took everyone’s pool money. High man was Big Jon who was just one shy his ten fish limit.
Nice fishing on a cloudy day.
Cheers,
Monty

Do I get skunked on this fishing trip???? Find out below!
