On Today!

On Today!

It was a really pretty day in and around Ocean City today with way warmer than average temperatures and light winds.  It was cloudy for most of the day and there was a stray sprinkle, but overall it was really nice.  Anglers were out on the bay in spite of the light fog and rockfishing was reel good for at least one group.

I saw my young buddy Grayson Wooldridge in church again this morning and he was excited to tell me that he was heading out again this afternoon to do some fishing with his dad John.  John reported back that it was “on” today around the route 90 bridge where he and Grayson trolled small umbrella rigs in 48 degree water.  Grayson put it to his dad releasing way more fish and even watched his pops lose a good fish at the boat.

Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star spent his birthday off the beach yesterday where he was rewarded with some reely good fishing for his clients.

Hi Scott,
Weatherman hit it dead on today. A calm easterly – made use of it in a 12 hour trip. Paddled a bit further than normal, hit a few spots I really enjoy. Amazing today was the variety. First fish I saw over the rail was a decent scup. Caught more too. Probably as many nice ones as I’ve caught in all my nearly 40 years of fishing off here combined I think. (or what a party boat up north would catch in a minute on a bad day..) Had a few white hake too. These are ‘jumbo ling’ for those who remember when we used to catch red hake in great numbers. Also caught the biggest triggerfish I’ve seen this year; plus cunner, pollock, a lost tautog, a really lost blueline tile, some blues, & lots of super-sweet jumbo sea bass.
Many trips we catch just sea bass and a few blues (plus the accursed spiny dog!)
Not today..
Had a few guys limit out. Everyone has a Bunch of Fish!
Lots of contenders for the sea bass only pool. Though some were longer,  Gary Giordano of Pasadena MD took the money with a 22 incher.
Also pictured are Ray Kenney (nice trigger) & Ron Novak of Baltimore – Bill Keefer (first limit) of Mechanicsburg PA – Richard Adams of Lewes DE – Dr. Jeff Kerner & Edgar Maull of Millsboro DE.

Captain Chris Mizurak of the Angler was off the beach yesterday as well and reported the same conditions with good fishing.  Captain Chris had several anglers with limits of sea bass and some bluefish mixed in for good measure.
