After a nerve racking couple of weeks, Maryland sea bass season opened up today and Mother Nature was nice enough to let folks get out and try it. MD and DE regs for 2026 will have a season from today (May 1) through December 31 with a 12.5” minimum size and a 15 fish per person creel limit. And today we had a pretty good start.
Captain Chris Mizurak of the Angler reported decent fishing to start the season with some nice fish coming aboard. None were as nice as the fish pool winner caught by my buddy OCPD Mike Dzurnak who caught a JUMBO 5.9 pounder. Mike reported he caught the big sea bass on a Deadly Tackle Hi-Lo 5/0 rig baited with squid and an Otter Tail on his lucky Deadly Tackle rod.
Captain Chase Eberle of Chasin Tides Charters had a nice day of sea bass fishing today as well with a pile of nice fish. He has also been putting clients on some good tautog fishing with releases up to 18 pounds.

Anglers fishing with Captain Dave Caffrey aboard On the Run Charters had a great day with a limit of sea bass, six keeper flounder, a keeper tautog and a 32” rockfish release.

Captain Jason Mumford of Lucky Break Charters continued his fantastic spring flounder season with three trips today that saw eight, six and three keeper flounder respectively.

Tim Bieleski and his Dad, Mike had a good day of sea bass fishing at the Bass Grounds with some nice fish and hook ups on every drop.
