With calm seas predicted and a good white marlin bite going on right now, the Poor Girls Open hosted by Bahia Marina has absolutely smashed their previous participation record. Wednesday night’s registration saw a throng of people at Bahia Marina, and at the end of it there were 135 boats signed up for the 22nd Annual Captain Steve Harman’s Poor Girls Open. Tournament Director Shawn Harman reports that there are 631 anglers and the total payout will be over $175,000! If the first place team is across the board, they are estimated to win $84,000! Ha!
This is one of the largest ladies only billfish tournaments in the world and it happens right here in Ocean City. The ladies really have a way of showing us guys how it’s done too! Do yourself a favor and get to the scales Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 4PM – 7:30PM to see all of the action unfold. There are a ton of boats fishing and the weather conditions look very good so there should be lots of action. I’ll be there covering the event for Fish in OC and Hooked on OC so stop by and say Hi!
The Judith M which is also coincidentally out of Bahia Marina had a good trip with the flounder this morning. Captain Don Hetherington put this crew on a few keeper flounder and added a couple of nice sea bass for good measure. The Judith M runs 1/2 day trips out of Bahia Marina twice a day all summer long.
