We had another nice weather day today in and around Ocean City with warm temperatures, light winds and sunny skies. There were a few light passing showers this morning, but by early afternoon it was sunny and there was definitely an opportunity to get out and do some fishing.
New Dad Captain John Prather of Ocean City Guide Service got out of baby duty for a quick trip out and had a good time catching a couple of nice keeper flounder for the oven. Captain John was joined by the family dog Jetty and trolled minnows north of the route 50 bridge to land a couple of nice fish.
Fishing over on the Chesapeake Bay is finally starting to pick up a little after a slow start to the trophy rockfish season. Captains blame the late start on spawning fish just coming out of the rivers and are thankful to finally be seeing some fish hit a trolled bait. Captain Mark Hoos and mate Mark Stephens of the charter boat Marli have had some good luck with some big fish of late. Scott Savage from Bishopville, MD and his crew weathered the heavy wind yesterday on the Marli and caught these bruisers in 40′ of water on tandem rigs.
Captain Willie Zimmerman and mate Rich Hastings of the Absolut Pleasure have put the Romero boys on some fish the past few days. There haven’t been a bunch of bites, but the fish that they are catching are really nice.
Come check us out tomorrow at the Delmarva Outdoor Expo in Harrington, DE where we will have Fish in OC magazines and Hooked on OC tee shirts for sale. Short sleeves are $15 or 3 for $40 and long sleeves are $20 or 3 for $50. We’re right next to the bass tub so I can wet a line if I get bored.
