Really Good Flounder Bite

Really Good Flounder Bite

It started off pretty foggy this morning, but it had burned off by this afternoon with the help of the sun and the warm temperatures.  It’s supposed to get pretty hot starting tomorrow and we’ve got some unstable weather moving into the area Wednesday, but its summer time and that is to be expected.

What’s not to be expected all the time is the really good flounder fishing that is going on in our back bays right now.  We’ve got clean water conditions on the high and outgoing tide and that is enabling anglers to take advantage of what seems to be a bunch of flounder hanging out.  Captain John Prather of Ocean City Guide Service had a couple of trips today where he put some flounder in the box.  This morning Captain John put his anglers on two keepers and a cobia that was released and this afternoon he put his anglers on seven nice keepers for the box.

Captain Drew Zerbe of the Tortuga out of Bahia Marina had some luck with the flounder too today.Ben Webb from Alpharetta, GA outfished his father David Webb to win the fish pool with a 20 1/2″, 3lb. 2 oz. flounder that is now in second place in the Tortuga’s season long flounder derby.

I got two shots from Bear at the Oceanic Pier today of anglers that had good luck with flounder off of the 2nd street bulkhead.  11-year-old Aiden from Quakerstown, PA landed two flounder today that he was able to take home.  The bigger fish was 19 1/2″ and one was caught on a spoon while the other was caught on a minnow.

Don from New Castle, DE also caught two flounder from 2nd street today at 16 3/4″ and 19 3/4″.

Ocean bottom fishing continues to be productive for sea bass and now more and more flounder are moving on to the near shore wrecks and reefs.  Anglers on the party boat Angler had good fishing today with some sea bass and flounder and one BIG sea robin.

Anglers on the Ocean Princess with Captain Victor Bunting had good fishing today as well in flat calm conditions.  Anglers caught several sea bass this morning with some really nice fish in the mix.
