Even though it’s only the mid 40’s outside it feels more and more like spring everyday. With no wind and sunny skies the mid 40’s feels pretty good and anglers are getting outside and taking advantage of some of the fishing that we can expect this time of year.
During the last day of the Saltwater Fishing Expo today my young buddy Ayrton “The Kayaking Crouton” Pryor of the Spring Mix II and I were talking about the possibility of rockfish being caught in the back bays of Ocean City. You see, Ayrton has been out of town some this winter and it’s really had an effect on my fishing report. He is usually one of the first guys out on the bay in his kayak to find the schoolie stripers and since he’s been out of town he has obviously not done that. Well I told Ayrton to get home and get me a report and that’s exactly what he was able to do. Ayrton kayaked the bay above the route 90 bridge this evening when he got back from the show and was able to entice three rockfish up to 22″ to eat his jig head / white worm combo. Nice work buddy…..welcome back!
Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star was able to get out on the rip again today and though fishing could stand to improve some, he was rewarded with a few more tautog.
Hi Scott,
Nice taste of spring today, weather wise at least. Had some keeper tog too if surely not in numbers we’d have wished.
Mark Sun of Bethesda and Yung Kim of Virginia Beach tied for the pool with a pair of 22 inchers.
We do tog pools by length – a fish that’s been tagged and put back counts the same as one in the boat. Not today, but have had several trips this winter where the money went to a release.
Also pictured are Joe Mole’ of Long Island – Tyrone Walters of Washington DC – Tony Ford of Baltimore – & Charlie Donohue of Philadelphia..
Cheers
Monty
Captain Brian Behe of Buffalo Hunter Guide Service was on the Pocomoke River for his third trip in as many days and was once again able to put his anglers on some fish. These young anglers had a nice catch of crappie with some bonus yellow perch and also released another 40+ crappie. Hopefully the bite stays hot for our trip with him tomorrow for an episode of Hooked on OC!
