After a pretty horrible start for the month of April, the weather has taken a much awaited turn for the better. It was another absolutely beautiful day in Ocean City, and the weather the past few days has been what some locals refer to as “DelMarValous”! The thermometer on my truck read 84 degrees at one point, it was mostly sunny and the wind was light for most of the day.
When the weather is good, anglers are getting out on the water and I’m thankful to get their reports.
Kim Borys caught this beautiful 42″, 35 pound rockfish while trolling tandem rigs in the Tangier sound with Jamie Breidenstein, Matt Borys, Walter Borys and Tim Oberlander.
I’ve heard of some decent sized bluefish in the back bays of Ocean City and my good friend John Wittmyer of Crabs to Go was lucky enough to land a couple of them today. John was fishing with his brother Bobby Reynard and Ocean City fishing legend Big Bird Cropper on the Ship of Fools in the back bays of Ocean City today. The crew ended the day with nine small rockfish and two nice “chopper” bluefish. All were caught on Big Bird’s Roy Rig’s.
Not to let a beautiful weather day go to waste, Captain Jeff Coats of Pitboss Fishing ventured out today to see if he could do better than our so-so day yesterday filming episode #200 of Hooked on OC. Captain Jeff fished the route 50 bridge solo today casting Roy Rig’s for the last 2 1/2 hours of the outgoing tide. The water was clear and the weather was awesome! Captain Jeff was able to catch a few more fish than our trip yesterday with 14 total released rockfish and a really nice surprise….a 20″ flounder that inhaled the 5″ Roy Rig. Captain Jeff reports that all of the action took place in a span of about 30 minutes and the best of it included a rockfish every cast for six in a row.
