Rockin’ With The Pitboss

Rockin’ With The Pitboss

After several days of dense morning fog and up and down temperatures we ended up with a really beautiful day in and around Ocean City today.  There hasn’t been a ton of fishing going on thanks to the wind and some rain we’ve had recently, but it’s still February so any fishing at all is a good thing.

I was able to get out for some fishing today with my good friend Captain Jeff Coats of Pitboss Fishing to film an upcoming episode of Hooked on OC.  Captain Jeff was one of, if not the first to find some rockfish at the route 90 bridge so we decided to give it a go with the favorable forecast.  The day started a little chilly with about a 10 knot northeast wind and cooler temperatures, but by the time early afternoon had rolled around the wind had laid out nicely and it was quite warm with the sun shining.  It’s always a good time with Captain Jeff as he’s always #thinkingofyou and #enjoying time on the water…..throw in some nice rockfish and it was a really nice day.  I borrowed my son Ryan’s awesome JPR spinning rod knowing that we’d be doing a bunch of casting and we used Big Bird’s World Famous Roy Rig at the route 90 bridge and had some decent luck with school sized rock in the 20 – 24″ range.  The fish were sluggish in the cold water, but with a little effort and some luck we were able to land a couple of really healthy fish.  It should make for a great episode of Hooked on OC in just a few weeks!  Thanks to Dave Messick of Hooked on OC for the shots!

Ayrton “The Kayak Kid” Pryor of the Spring Mix II has been having some good luck with the “schoolie” rock in the north bay.  Ayrton fished his kayak and fished lead heads and shad bodies to land 15 rock between 18″ and 24″ with one fish that was 26″.  He even had two fish hit top water lures as he fished the marsh edges in the north bay.

The fresh water ponds and rivers are waking up more and more everyday with the warm weather and my buddy Dave Wells of DW Mowing took full advantage the other day.  Dave and his adorable daughter Ellie used 1/4 oz Mepp’s spinner baits to catch and release 15 largemouth bass at a local pond during this week’s nice weather.
