Sea Bass and Sheepshead

Sea Bass and Sheepshead

Hit the above vid for the Daily Catch at the Ocean City Fishing Center!

We’ve got a little window of weather here to finish up the week as high pressure has moved into the area and helped to drop the wind out.  It looks to come back in less than a week as now Hurricane Helena moves into the U.S.  To anyone reading this in her path…..be safe, we’re thinking about you.

Jon Henry of the Reel Chaos was out with Noah, Judith, Jon, Sebastian and Mark doing some bottom fishing in the OC Inlet yesterday and they found what they were looking for.  The group used Deadly Tackle tog/bottom jigs baited with a variety of baits from sand fleas to crabs and they caught a pile of sheepshead and tautog.  Jon Henry caught the largest fish that weighed in at 10 pounds.

Captain Chase Eberle of Chasin Tides Charters put this lucky angler on a keeper flounder in the east channel.

The ocean going party boats were able to get out today after almost two weeks of being tied to the dock and they found the sea bass chewing well.  Captain Victor Bunting of the Ocean Princess put his anglers on lots of keeper sea bass and several nice triggerfish too.

Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star had a nice day on the ocean today as well with the most limits of sea bass that he’s seen this year.

Sea Bass 9/25/24 – Most sea bass limits this year.. Tomorrow and Fri 9/27 are it for sea bass w/me til after Oct closure. Spots open.
..that was different. Actually stuck my bow out the inlet & kept going. First trip in 12 days because of weather.
Caught limits too?
Be still my heart!
Most limits this year!
Better weather (just a ground swell) and lots of room Thurs & Fri (no spots left Saturday.) That’ll be the last of sea bass until Oct 11 when they reopen.
Need another three days of NE wind this coming Sunday like a new shoal across the inlet. Both accomplish same – can’t get out!
Anyway.. Almost did an about face perhaps two miles out.
Was not pretty.
Oh No.
Decided to drop blocks at least and see if it moderated.
Did!
..but forecasting of SE at 10 did not come to be until after lunch when seas improved nicely.
On the way offshore I held course for an artificial reef site, where, as always, we made a small improvement to a reef before pressing on.
My first stop – the reef I’d wanted to fish – really didn’t look like much as I scanned it. Within an hour and twenty minutes, however, John had a limit of sea bass in his cooler. They were hungry! Ended up with 7 limits out of ten anglers I think – everyone was in at least double digits – most limits this year..
Pat won the pool with a very fine cbass of 21.25 inches.
We’ll be paying the rent too!
C’mon and go fishing!
Cheers,
Monty

Caught some blues in the inlet last week…..check it out!!
