It was a beautiful fall day today in and around Ocean City. It started off chilly, but by midday the temperatures had climbed into the 60s and there was little or no wind. The local party boat fleet was able to get out to the sea bass grounds and anglers were out in full force fishing the back bays of Ocean City. I got several photos submitted today, and even took a couple myself, and most of them were of bass….sea bass, striped bass and a couple of big mouth.
The Angler with Captain Chris Mizurak had a phenomenal day of bottom fishing on some ocean structure today. Captain Chris reported good sea bass fishing today with most anglers catching their limit of 15 fish and some nice flounder mixed in. The largest sea bass was a stud at 4 pounds, 1 ounce and the largest flounder of the day was a doormat at 5 pounds.
I got a couple of photos submitted today of striped bass and the first came from Bear down at the Oceanic Pier. John had a heck of a morning fishing the route 50 bridge with Zoom artificials and landed two keeper sized stripers.
My buddy John Wooldridge sent me a photo of his son Grayson with his 9th striper of the fall season today. John reports……Greyson’s fish was caught & released in the mouth of the St Martin River today on the outgoing tide while trolling with Storm bunker type lures. We saw a small pod of dolphins feeding on an abundant supply of menhaden at the mouth of the river too. The bait fish were showing up on the fish finder near the bottom inside of the Rt 90 bridge real thick. Water temp was 58°. A little warm still but the smaller (14-15″) fish are are starting to show up in pretty good numbers at certain times & tides.
Captain Jeff Coats of Pitboss Fishing was taking advantage of the nice fishing conditions today on his fiancé Karen’s day off. The duo used bucktails to catch over 50 12″-16″ bluefish in the inlet sometimes catching two at a time.
I had the pleasure of fishing the Pocomoke River today with my good friend Captain Brian Behe of Buffalo Hunter Guide Service for an upcoming episode of Hooked on OC and we had a great time. The Pocomoke is a beautiful river here in Worcester County that is just a 25 minute drive from Ocean City. We had great luck with large mouth bass, crappie and one big bluegill while casting crank baits, spinner baits and grubs. Captain Brian even provides a hot lunch with Crabs to Go crab cakes for his charters. It was a heck of a lot of fun and should make for a great episode of Hooked on OC.
