Fishing conditions were good once again today with light winds and sunny skies and will be again for tomorrow before the wind blows a little bit on Saturday. I just got back from sign ups for the Ocean City Marlin Club’s Heels and Reels Tournament where 50 boats signed up to put their fish catching skills to the test. This is a great ladies only tournament and makes for some great practice fishing just before next week’s White Marlin Open. There is some good news for both tournaments as some more white marlin were seen and caught today offshore in the canyons.
Captain Luke Blume and mate Jon Henry of the C Boys caught and released a couple of white marlin in the Washington Canyon today. The crew was two for three white marlin bites and also caught two keeper sized yellowfin and a mahi to make for a good day.
The Spring Mix II with Captain Chris Watkowski and mate Ayrton “The Kayak Kid” Pryor had a good day in the Washington Canyon today as well. Captain Chris and Ayrton put their crew on two white marlin releases, a hand full of mahi and some triggerfish.
11 year old Miles Daisey caught his first white marlin today with Brian Roberts of the HUK Big Fish Classic, his father Captain Skip Daisey and Richard Osborne. Miles was fishing on the Reel Direct with Captain Allen Fields at the helm and released the white while fishing in 50 fathoms south of the Rockpile. The crew also caught a yellowfin tuna and a mahi.
Kyle Breitzke caught this 46 pound yellowfin tuna yesterday while chunking at Massey’s Canyon while hardly anyone else was catching any fish at all on the spot.
The Angler with Captain Chris Mizurak had a good day of bottom fishing on ocean structure today. Captain Chris put his anglers on a bunch of sea bass and a couple of keeper flounder.
Captain Marc Spagnola of Dusk to Dawn Bowfishing showed his bow fishing prowess again today by putting his shooters on some good action for cow nosed and southern rays.
