Some BIG Back Bay Flounder Being Caught

Hit the vid for the Daily Catch at Sunset Marina!

We had some beautiful weather in and around Ocean City today and it looks like it will continue through the weekend.  The sun was shining, temperatures were awesome in the 70s and winds were very light.  It’s my favorite time of year.

Captain Dave Caffrey of On the Run charters has caught a couple of very nice flounder over the past few days.  Two days ago it was a beautiful seven pound fish and today it was another doormat of 8.5 pounds.  Angler Linda Stauffer of Mechanicsburg, PA caught the big flounder on a live bait in the OC Inlet.

The crew of the private boat Something Simple had a great day with three first time white marlin release anglers.  Photo by Sunset Marina.

Captain Will of Local Hooker Charters had a nice day for his anglers putting them on lots of throwback flounder and these two keepers.

Yesterday, Stacey Schindler and Rich Daiker combined for four keeper flounder from 19″ to 21″ on live bunker at the route 50 bridge.

Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star had a long, but productive day on the ocean today.

The lightest northerly breeze met us at the inlet; another welcome calm.
No blocks or pyramids aboard this morning; had a two anchor mooring for a reef deployment one day soon – wasn’t sure how it would play. (Went down today. See OC Reef Foundation post..)
(also a seperate post with Atlantic Spotted Dolphin and Bottlenose riding the bow wake.) Once those anchors were set, and buoys in great position for reefing the barge we’d prepped over the last week, I set a course east and found
..no mahi the first four stops
..and none on our next four.
UhOh..
After a few more spots I switched to sea bass.
First drift was quite productive -some nice knotheads- then precious little for a while save some ling (red hake) & a few more cbass.
A little after one I tried yet another mahi spot – Fish On!
Next three spots produced just fine.
The following 7 did not!
Whaaaaaaatttt…
Great Mercy.
It’s Fishing!
Spent about an hour with the mooring and then sidescan on way home – put in 3.5 hrs overtime total.
Tomorrow looks to be a beautiful day. Hope to get on the green beauties better! (and in sooner!)
Cheers,
Monty
