Trophy rockfish season continues over on the Chesapeake Bay and a lot of anglers here in Ocean City will make the trip to get in on some of the action with our state fish. There are a couple of Ocean City boats that stay on the western shore and fish for the big rock, and some of them will even charter for them.
The Marli with Captain Mark Hoos is a part of the offshore charter fleet here at Fish in OC, but their season begins with the rockfish over on the Chesapeake. Captain Mark reported in today that the fishing up until today has been tough, but it turned on nicely for them today.
“Jim Nomikos from Monkton, MD and his crew caught their limit of Chesapeake Bay Spring Trophy Rockfish by 9:00am fishing in Solomons, MD on the charter boat MARLI with Captain Mark Hoos and mate Mark Stephens. The bite started incredibly slow this season but turned strong today. The MARLI caught over a dozen fish today. Let’s hope the bite remains good. The largest fish measured out to be 44″. Great job to a Jim and his team.”
Captain Jason Mumford on the inshore charter boat Lucky Break has got the boat in the water running trips and having great success. Yesterday afternoon Captain Jason put his crew on 17 throwback rockfish in the inlet on grub tails during the outgoing tide with the biggest fish being 22″. Today Captain Jason fished the incoming tide and caught another 10 throwback rockfish up to 25″ and two of those nice bluefish up to 10 pounds.
