Terrific Inshore Fishing

Terrific Inshore Fishing

Unfortunately for the offshore fleet the wind that blew in here yesterday was off in the canyons today so it was off limits for tuna fishermen who wanted to see if they are still around.  Thankfully it had calmed down enough inshore that the party boat fleet was able to get out in the ocean and bay fishermen were treated with a pretty good day of weather and fishing.

I’ll start tonight’s report with a photo and a really big THANK YOU to the gentlemen in it that have sacrificed as members of our armed forces.  Captain Austin Ensor of Primary Search and member from his East / West Games sent this group of Warriors out for a day of fun and fishing aboard Captain Nick Clemente’s Ivy Sea and Get Sum and Fish in OC’s very own Ocean City Guide Service with Captain John Prather.  The soldiers had a great time fishing and actually put a couple of keeper flounder in the box.  Big thanks to Austin, Captain John, Captain Nick, the Ocean City Fishing Center, my buddy Chris Lynch for the photo and especially these great men who fought for us.

I got an email from Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star today just after 1 PM saying that he was on the way back in with a limit of sea bass.  Captain Monty reported “one of the best cbass bites I’ve ever seen” and a boat limit with an early departure for home.  Monty has been sea bassing for a long time so that is an impressive statement.  If you’d like to read Captain Monty’s fishing report you can check it out here.  MorningStar Fish Report

Captain Chase Eberle of Chasin’ Tides Charters had a couple of trips today and both of them were good.  This morning Captain Chase put Austin Cessna on his first saltwater fish and it was a doozie.  Austin caught a 26.5″, 12.6 pound citation sheepshead on this morning’s trip.  This afternoon Captain Chase was joined by Kelsey, Lauren and Derek who were treated to a limit of bluefish, 14 triggerfish, a 10.2 pound sheepshead and some throwback flounder and rockfish.

Adam at Bahia Marina sent me this photo first thing this morning of Dave Schindler who caught this big 7 pound 6 ounce flounder on a bucktail while fishing around the route 50 bridge.

Mark Williams from Virginia caught these two bruiser sheepshead on a sand flea fishing the north jetty with Captain Dave Caffrey of On The Run Charters.

As mentioned at the top Captain John Prather of Ocean City Guide Service had some of the veterans out today and his trip included two keeper flounder for these brave men.  This afternoon Dispatch editor Steve Green had his son Beckett out for his first fishing adventure and released several throwback flounder with Captain John.

Captin Jeff Coats of Pitboss Fishing had to go west to get his dinner this afternoon, but it was worth the trip for he and wife Karen.  The duo fished the Choptank river and landed some keeper rockfish on Big Bird Cropper’s Roy Rig.  They also landed a Lemonshark (see photo).

Captain Mike Giardina had a successful trip aboard the Calico Jack today when he put these anglers on a couple of nice keeper flounder.

Bear down at the Oceanic Pier sent this photo of Kevin from Pennsylvania who was lucky enough to land a 16 3/4″ keeper flounder from the pier on a live minnow.

The wind was right for Captain Marc Spagnola of Dusk to Dawn Bowfishing to put his shooters from today on some great action for cow nosed and southern rays.  The biggest southern ray tipped out at a whopping 77 pounds.

I got a Facebook message from Kevin Graybill with this cool shot of him with a keeper flounder and a race boat practicing in the south bay this afternoon.

And speaking of race boats….you can check out our live coverage of the Ocean City Power Boat Races tomorrow starting at 12 PM at www.bullonthebeachoc.com
