Day 2 of the 22nd Annual Captain Steve Harman’s Poor Girls Open was a good one! Sea conditions were about as good as they can get offshore with light and variable winds and flat calm seas. Here’s how the leader board looks after two days of fishing.
Junior Angler
Junior angler Isabelle Marco is holding strong in 1st place in the category with her impressive catch of four white marlin releases. That’s going to be a tough one to take over!
Wahoo
We finally had some wahoo hit the scales today after day 1 didn’t see any on the board. The 2nd place fish was caught by the ladies on board the Joint Venture and weighed in at 41 pounds.
Just as the scales were about to close the ladies on board the Reel Passion came to the dock with a nice 42.3 pound wahoo good for 1st place.
Dolphin
A new 2nd place dolphin hit the dock today from the crew of the Haulin’ N’ Ballin’ that weighed in at 21.8 pounds.
The 1st place dolphin is still holding on for right now and that was caught yesterday by the crew of the Catch 22. Wendy Jones was a little nervous today, but her 22.5 pound mahi is still holding on to the top spot.
Tuna
Talk about bursting on to the board! Angler Nora Warren fishing on the Maverick weighed the first tuna of the tournament today and it was a doozie. Nora’s 139.8 pound bigeye hit the scale hard and will be a tough fish to top.
3rd Place Billfish
There were quite a few changes today in the billfish release category. The white marlin fishing is really heating up off of Ocean City and the ladies do it way better than the guys do. It will all come down to time caught, but currently there are two boats with seven white marlin releases looking at 3rd place. The Tighten Up who fished yesterday, and the Reel Chaos who fished today.
2nd Place Billfish
The team that now holds 2nd place in the billfish release category had an awesome day on the water today. The ladies on board the Reel Toy caught and released eight white marlin to take 2nd place in the category.
1st Place Billfish
As impressive as some of the catches were today, none was more impressive than the boat that took 1st place in the billfish release division today. The ladies fishing on the Reel Joy with Captain Andy Helms released nine white marlin…and there were only two anglers! Janelle and Shayna had a tremendous day and currently hold 1st place in the Poor Girls Open and if they hold on, a check for over $89,000!
Captain Joe Drosey on board Rhonda’s Osprey out of Sunset Marina hasn’t had a problem finding the white marlin lately either. Here is a lucky angler on board with a beautiful white marlin release.
Fish in OC inshore charter specialist John Prather on board Ocean City Guide Service had an awesome day fishing an inshore wreck today. Captain John had a two trips today with multiple keepers and some throwbacks mixed in on strip baits. Here is one crew with 14 nice keeper flounder.
