Triggers, Flounder, Blue Marlin and Tuna Fish

Triggers, Flounder, Blue Marlin and Tuna Fish

It was a windy one today boy!  So windy in fact that some boats left to go fishing and turned around on the way out.  Still others tried for a while only to call it quits because conditions were tough.  I did here from at least one boat that it calmed down some this afternoon and they were able to finish the day, but leaving this morning wasn’t for the faint of heart.

One boat that is never faint-hearted is the Boss Hogg.  Captain Corey Kennington had the Hogg out in the canyons today and he was all over the tuna fish again putting 13 healthy fish in the box.  The crew also released a white marlin for good measure.

Dave Kaplan from Lewes Delaware and his crew braved the rough sea conditions today on the Charter Boat MARLI with Captain Mark Hoos and mates Michael Butler and Dakota Bittner.  They boxed 6 yellowfin tuna, six big mahi and released an estimated 350 pound blue marlin.

The Lisa with Captain Stu Windsor at the helm has been seeing some good tuna fishing lately.  Captain Stu is putting happy anglers on plenty of yellowfin tuna including this bad boy that was over 100 pounds.

Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star stuck it out today and was rewarded with some pretty good fishing.  Morning Star’s crew had some really nice sea bass come over the rail and the first mahi of their season.

Captain Chris Mizurak of the Angler trudged out to the fishing grounds this morning and gave it a go for a little while until sea conditions had him make the call to head home.  There were some nice flounder and sea bass caught before the early departure and more will be there when the wind lays out.

There has been some decent fishing for structure dwelling fish like tautog and sheepshead lately in the OC inlet and today Captain John Prather of Ocean City Guide Service on another one.  Captain John put his anglers on two really nice, delicious tasting triggerfish while fishing the jetty this afternoon.

Captain Thayer Seely of Chasin’ Tides Charters had a good trip to the jetty last night with Tim Landis and his group where they caught and released more than 30 rockfish, 20 or so shad, some bluefish and one hungry tautog.  Remember tautog season opens back up July 1 so get the crabs and sand fleas ready.

Pictures of keeper flounder never get old and here are a couple from Captain Drew Zerbe of the Tortuga from today’s trips.

Captain Marc Spagnola of Dusk to Dawn Bowfishing reported that conditions were tough, but he was still able to get it done for this cow nosed ray shooter.

There have been some big houndfish cruising the back bays lately and Jordan Heisel found this big one while Roy Rigging from the route 50 bridge.  He had three houndfish with the biggest being a huge 5 footer.

My very good friends Emily and Joshua Blume are doing something really cool that all of you fishermen can be a part of.  They are having a contest and giving prizes to the boat that retrieves the most mylar balloons from the bay or ocean.  The “contest” will run from June 29 through September 30.  This is a great idea to help clean up our waters and make somebody some cool prizes in the meantime.  Check out their Facebook page for details.
